Advocate Fabio Ciani | Biography
Fabio Ciani, a tax lawyer, tax advisor and court-appointed expert in Milan, has been assisting major companies in tax and tax trial matters for thirty years. He set up and developed the Tax Law department of a leading Italian law firm, of which he was of Counsel for several years. He is the author, see below, of several books, Tax Codes and numerous publications over 200 in Italian and international tax journals and frequently speaks as a speaker at national and international conferences. He is systematically interviewed by the generalist press, see Repubblica, La Stampa, Corriere, Libero and l'Edicola del Sud. As part of his activity, he assists some of the most important Italian and foreign groups in tax consultancy and litigation, frequently dealing with issues of particular importance in terms of complexity and value. He has participated in several parliamentary hearings for the Union of Tax Lawyers on the various measures to revise the tax system.
Born in 1968, he graduated in law at the University of Bari. Between 1992 and 1993, he specialised in tax law at the Luiss Management School.
Until 2013, he held the role of tax partner at a leading tax law firm in Milan (ACMNP), soon becoming a name partner, coordinating the tax department, with prevailing advisory activities (Corporate Income, M&A and VAT) and procedural activities (Tax Commissions, Supreme Court) and assisting in end-procedural activities. Between 2014 and 2018 he was of counsel at the international tax law firm, Tonucci & Partners, based in Milan, always with responsibility for coordinating the tax department, dealing with substantive and procedural tax law. Awarded by Le Fonti Awards in 2017 and 2018 with the title 'Tributarist of the Year', at Borsa Affari. In March 2019, he was mentioned by Forbes among the top 100 legal, tax and strategy consulting professionals. Also mentioned among the best corporate lawyers by Class Editori Milano Finanza for the years 2020 and 2021 in the tax dispute practice. Formerly a member of the Board of Directors of the National Union of Tax Lawyers Chambers (Uncat) for the three-year period 2007/09 and director of the school of high specialisation and training in tax law of the same Uncat.
He is the author of two monographs on trusts, Il trust nell'ordinamento giuridico (2011) and Profili civilistici e fiscali nel trust (2009), as well as editing the title on extraordinary transactions in the Commentario al Tuir Ipsoa 2019 and 2020. He also edited the title on tonnage tax in the Commentary to the 2009 Income Tax Consolidation Act and is co-author of the work Voluntary disclosure (2014, Italia Oggi).
Since June 2023, he has held the position of chairman of the Milan Lawyers' Wealth Management Commission.
Since 2025, he has chaired the Centre for Studies on Corporate Taxation of the Lombardy Chamber of Tax Lawyers.
